“Efficiency is not the strategy” should be pinned inside every boardroom running an AI cost-reduction play right now. The organizations I watch most closely are not asking how to do existing things faster. They are asking which things should still exist at all. That is a harder question, and most leadership teams do not have the organizational design, or the appetite, to sit with it.

Thank you for sharing this. Putting aside for a moment the socio-economic/access disparity, AI commoditizes intelligence. The differentiating factor going forward is the wisdom shaping how AI is applied. One of the biggest risks I am seeing is the assumptions leaders are making as they respond to the information they received from AI. They ignore any biases. They accept as valid the models. They don’t look past the alternatives being offered. AI is accelerating the drive for speed. There are those decisions that are not well served by speed. As decisions are being made, as AI is being integrated into processes and operational mindsets, institutionalization is taking place. When we look at past paradigm-shifting innovations such as the steam engine, we see that decisions that served well in the short term often set less positive, or negative, precedents in the longer term. Let’s be intentional in avoiding the same mistakes with AI.
