It’s similar to The Godfather II in that regard. Both are artistically, stylistically, and technologically excellent.
The reason I think this works is because of all of the attention to art, style, technique and talent from the original. We were hooked from the start by excellence.
So when the origin story comes along, human nature kicks in: we’re curious, we want to know how these fascinating characters came to be who they are. And when the prequel is executed at commensurate quality, we revel in its excellence while it satisfies what we crave.
