Really love the data-driven approach in this post. This is a very worthwhile read for any strategic consultant out there. The one extrapolating today's realities into tomorrow very much hit home.
When psychological profiling became a big idea for big companies, I tested over-the-top on something called "strategic." This was news to me but it explained a lot. Strategic people visualize the connectedness between things better than the things themselves. Strategic people see outcomes very early on and they can be unpopular because they articulate worst-case-scenarios. Anyway, when I went out on my own, I named my consulting McLaughlin Strategy. A long way of saying that I LOVE this article. The dilemma in today's business world is that strategy often has a negative connotation because clients think that ad agencies and consulting firms use this word to slow things down. Even more challenging, most executives spend a lot of time in team meetings where everyone talks about objectives, strategies and tactics without much sense of which is which.
