One of the reasons I left my career in technical writing was because I realized that as I got older my value as a human being was shifting from what I could do to who I was. I moved into a career as a coach and mentor. An opportunity I see is the lack of what I would call "wise elders," there are a lot of older people because of aging baby boomers but are they simply older versions of their 20-year old selves? We desperately need more wise, loving elders in our culture who offer guidance and wisdom to younger generations.
When I retire in about 20 years I will (hopefully) be able to start my dream job: Teaching at my local community technical college! I've always wanted to work in adult education, but the pay is simply not enough to live on. If I'm getting something from my retirement account I will be able to supplement with part time teaching. It's nice to know that I will still have something to contribute
workers work in order to produce stuff that other people want
in biological terms, no species is evolved to live much beyond its ''working span'
unfortunately our sudden and unexpected flush of fossil fuel fuel energy has allowed us to do just that, we think it is a 'forever' situation---it isnt.
as our energy support system runs down and eventually stops, our lifespan will revert to a normality of under 50 years.
